Supportive Counselling

Are you going through a difficult time? Do you need to talk to someone? Do you want someone to listen?

Supportive Counsellors provide free, one-on-one support, by phone or in person, for women facing abuse, grief/loss and relationship issues.  Confidentiality is assured and no appointment is necessary

Supportive Counselling is available Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM and on Saturdays from 10:00 AM until noon. Call or Drop-In.

An appointment is required for counselling in your own language. Please visit our Caring Across Cultures page for more information.

The most basic and powerful way to connect to another person is to listen. Just listen. Perhaps the most important thing we ever give each other is our attention... A loving silence often has far more power to heal and to connect than the most well-intentioned words.

Our “Women Supporting Women” model provides support, guidance, encouragement and the opportunity to express your emotions and explore your options.  We provide help for a wide range of issues including abuse, stress, loneliness, isolation, low self-esteem or emotional difficulties.

Through our Peer Counselling program, we help you to discover your own strengths and abilities and gain confidence to find your own solutions and effectively deal with your life situations.  Women learn coping strategies, stress reduction skills and connect to additional resources both within the Centre and community.  We can provide crisis support for women in distress, help you to develop a safety plan and empower you to make informed decisions about your life.

We offer a safe, non-threatening confidential place for you to receive support.

The Women’s Centre strives to eliminate financial and cultural barriers by offering free, confidential, immediate supportive counselling.

Many women have benefited from our program:

“When I walked into the Centre, I was broken and beaten down. I had been involved in a ten year mentally, emotionally, sexually and physically abusive relationship. You have helped me start a life again. No words can explain the gratitude I feel. Thank you for all your support, time, lessons and love.” Jana

“Over the last few years, I have suffered several devastating losses. The women at the Women’s Centre listened while I poured my heart out. Their kindness and empathy lifted the weight of those losses off my shoulders, and I am now able to move on in my life.” Maureen

“Thank you with all my heart for your kindness, affection and compassion. You have given me a reason to go on living and I have a wonderful feeling of belonging somewhere for the first time in my life.” Anonymous
