Finding Myself by Jacquelyn

Truthfully, I could never have imagined what I would take away with me!  Not only did I learn the skills and requirements that I would need to work in the social field but I learned to find myself.  The Women’s Centre has a magical energy that engulfed and touched me deeply and gave me a solid foundation for growth and inspiration. 

In my five months at The Women’s Centre I was able to give my time and skills but little did I realize the gifts that I would receive. Sharing my story at The Women’s Centre brought peace and clarity to my life in the form of freedom.  The Centre for me is a safe place that accepted me unconditionally for who I am, allowed me to express myself and to have a voice. 

Hearing other women’s stories, challenges, pain and success have by far been the greatest gifts I have received.  I am honored and grateful that so many women have shared their most intimate experiences with me through their stories. It is through other’s stories that I was able to see where our similarities overlap through our fears and our strength.

There is a powerful bond that forms when we give and receive simple things in life.  So whether it is a story, a smile, or a hug we are all connected. What started out as a student intern placement ended in the beginning of a journey of wisdom, empowerment and healing. I have found serenity, strength and joy in my daily life. Thank you to all the amazing women that make up The Women’s Centre and those who walk through our doors.
