The Women’s Centre is dedicated to supporting women in crisis, distress, or transition by providing programs and services to effect positive change.
How the Women's Centre began
The Women’s Centre was established in 1989 by a group of women who identified the need for a safe place within the community where women who had experienced abuse could receive after-care, support and ongoing services. The Centre now offers an array of programs to meet the needs of women.
In 1991 the Women’s Centre became a recognized and registered Charitable Organization and continues to support thousands of women who access our Centre for help.
Who are we?
The Women’s Centre is a volunteer driven, not for profit, charitable organization that is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of women who are in transition, crisis, or distress. The services the Centre offers empowers and meets the needs of all women regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religion, and sexual orientation.
Empowering our clients is at the root of our philosophy and mandate. Our philosophy is to welcome all women, and to provide support and assistance in a non-judgemental, non-threatening environment that will give each woman the opportunity to be heard; to accept the equal worth of each woman and to value the individuality of her life experience; to acknowledge the shared commonality of women’s experience and the impact of this experience and societal expectations on women’s behaviours and choices.
