Women of the Year
The Women’s Centre is proud to present the annual Halton Women of the Year Awards. Below you will find a recap of the most recent event.
2008 Women of the Year Awards
These awards recognize the efforts of women in Halton who have overcome obstacles and made outstanding contributions to the community, on a volunteer and professional basis. Included in the ceremony is a fun cocktail hour and a Silent Auction filled with a huge array of services and items from local merchants and businesspeople. The Silent Auction also acts as a major fundraiser for the Centre.
Another exciting part of this event is the Scholarship of Hope, awarded to a young woman who has overcome personal challenges. The scholarship is provided to a high school graduate who is going onto postsecondary studies.
This year marked the 10th anniversary of the Women of the Year Awards. Held on May 6, the event was a tremendous success. The Women's Centre would like to congratulate all of the nominees and the three winners: Mary Jane Howie, Dekyi Lee Oldershaw and Joan Gallagher-Bell. We would also like to congratulate Scholarship of Hope winner Jessica Lyons.
We invite you to read more about the awards ceremony in the Burlington Post and the Oakville Beaver.
An event like this would not be possible without the dedication and support of many individuals and businesses. We would like to extend our thanks to our major sponsors, silent auction donors, staff and volunteers for giving so much of themselves to The Women's Centre.
